Southport and Formby CHC AGM 

Minutes of Community Health Council Meeting held on 24th July 2001 at the CHC office, 53 Hoghton Street, Southport.

Present:- Mr J Hoiden.     Chairman:-  Clir P Starkey.     Vice Chair:- Mr D Berry Mr & leek, 

Mr A Dawson Mrs P McNamara, Mrs P. Goodman, Mr L Simans, Mrs A Hindley, Miss V Webster Mr J Latham & Mr L Wesgate,


Apologies:- Mr F Pointon Mrs K Taphouse, Mrs M Pointon, Ms J Beenstock, Chief Executive S&F PCT

In Attendance:- Mr R Hutchings Non-Exec Director S&F PCT, Mrs F Shaw Assistant to the Chief Officer Mrs M Yarwood Chief Officer

Three members of the public attended.

Student Community Health Council

The Student CHC formally presented their report on Eating Disorders. On behalf of the CHC, the Chairman congratulated them on their commitment in producing the report and presented certificates to commemorate their work.

00/01.58 Minutes of Previous A&W

The Minutes of the previous AGM held on the 18th July 2000 having been previously circulated, were approved as a true record and signed by the Chairman.

00/01.59 Matters Arising from the Minutes:

There were no matters arising f rorn the previous minutes.

00/01.60 Chairman's Announcements:

The Chairman spoke on the work of the CHC over the lost year, which had been a year of change with the appointment of a new Chief Of f icer, and Assistant to the Chief Of f icer followed by the threat of abolition under the Health and Social Care Bill. He went on to record his thanks to the staff for their commitment and hard work throughout the year, particularly in the organisation of the recently successful Stroke Summit.

The Standing Orders were agreed and adopted.

00/01.62 Standing Financial Instructions:

The Standing Financial Instructions were agreed and adopted.

00/01.63Meeting Dates 2001/2002:

Meeting dates for the forthcoming year were agreed and adopted, with one meeting to be held in Formby. These will be circulated to all CHC members.

00101'.64 ACHCEW:

The Chairman presented a brief update on this conference. There had been optimism from the top table regarding the position of CHCs but contributions from the floor presented a different view and the Chair felt that CHCs were still very much under the threat of abolition. Several delegates highlighted the difficulty in recruiting CHC staff and it was confirmed that an assurance had been given from the NHS that vacant posts would continue to be filled but only on temporary contracts.

The conference also included a presentation by Sir Donald Irvine on the proposals to ensure doctors are appropriately trained and accredited and that the patient remained the main part of the equation when it came to treatment.

In view of the uncertain future for CHCs and in line with the practice adopted in other CHCs, it was agreed that elections be suspended and members continue to represent the CHC as follows:?
