Riverside Steam and Vintage Vehicle Rally 2010 Report
Report and photographs by Craig Boon

THE Sunday of the second ever Riverside Steam and Vintage Vehicle Rally was a little cloudier to start with than the brilliant sunshine seen on the opening day but still managed to draw in a large crowd to enjoy the show.

Exhibitors were proud to show off their classic vehicles (both cars and motorbikes) and steam engines along side a tradition funfair (enjoyed by both young and old), food (both traditional fare of burgers and chips as well as a delicious and well priced carvery). The crowds had a huge selection of stalls to meander through right next to the vehicles offering goods from classic car parts to jewelry and traditionally made food.

Of particular note was the inaugural opening of the Ladies’ marquee and visiting this were Sunday’s very popular celebrities; Michelle Keegan (Tina from TV’s Coronation Street) and celebrity Michelin starred chef Nigel Haworth (Northcote Manor near Blackburn which has retailed it’s Michelin star since being awarded it in 1996). Later demonstrations in the marquee were flower arranging by Graham Iddon and hair by Scott Charles (Tarleton and Leyland). The previous day’s star was Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw also of Coronation street), who was also extremely popular with the crowd.

Michelle drew a large crowd of admirers as she visited not only the Ladies’ marquee but also many of the exhibits around the showground. Nigel was demonstrating several recipes to a fully seated audience and I must say his cauliflower salad looked delicious.

The cloud that had been present all morning started to burn away by 1 o’clock and people were still seen arriving even then.

A great day out, we were pleased to see the second running of the show was a great success and the first time a ladies marquee was present also seemed to go down very well.
