Captain America Car Chase
Photographs by Ian Fairbrother

LAST day of filming in Liverpool set of Captain America. Pictured are the vehicles that took part in a 1940's car chase being filmed on Liverpool Docks. The historic Dock Road was transformed into a New York set for this part of the action film that is set to be released in 2011. Give the gift of time

CHRISTMAS is the busiest time of the year for British Heart Foundation (BHF) Shops, and this year the nation’s heart charity is appealing for volunteers in Merseyside to lend a hand and make a difference to heart patients across the country.

With over 540 Shops and 100 Furniture & Electrical Stores, the BHF urgently needs some extra help over the festive period to help Christmas customers. The BHF sees a rise in people visiting their local Shop to purchase Christmas cards and gifts from their new goods range, and to donate stock if they’re having a clear out before the holidays.

Volunteers are absolutely essential to the success of the charity, and play a vital part in fighting heart disease, the nation’s biggest killer. Last year in Merseyside 227 volunteers worked in BHF Shops in the 12 weeks running up to Christmas which is the equivalent to donating £118,494 in time.

This year, having opened up 47 new Shops and Furniture & Electrical Stores we need even more help. Volunteering is a feel-good way for communities to pull together, and embrace the Christmas spirit of goodwill. It’s also a great opportunity to be part of a team, have fun and make some new friends.

Mike Lucas, BHF Retail Director says:- “Most families in this country have been touched by heart disease at some point, and this Christmas you could really make a difference to them by giving the gift of your time. Whether you can spare a couple of hours or a couple of days a week, we really would appreciate your support.”

There are lots of different roles available from merchandising the large range of new Christmas gift products to selling Christmas cards or processing stock donations. Perhaps you are a natural sales person, and can sell raffle tickets for our annual Christmas hamper, which last year raised an amazing £572,000 for the BHF.

Or why not help your local BHF Furniture & Electrical Store? The specialist stores also need extra volunteers in the run up to Christmas to move stock, organise free collections and help sell goods to people who may need extra beds and chairs for family staying over the holidays.
