Blues News
Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes
Saturday 14 September
8pm Doors

Oh boy, oh boy! Have we got Blues for you!
Next month, from the home of the Blues, the man who called Muddy 'Daddy'…. Mr Big Bill Morganfield. In November, as the nights draw in, who better to turn up the heat than those furry fireballs, The Hamsters. And for that end of term, office party festival bash… who you gonna call? Mr Otis Grand and his Big Blues Band, that's who!

But first, leading the charge with all guns blazing, Mr Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes. Hailed by aficionados and music press around the world as Europe's foremost blues harmonica exponent, Paul Lamb has forged himself a place in the history books as one of the greatest players of our time. he has won countless awards, sold record-breaking quantities of albums, and performed all over the world with his long-time musical compatriots, the kingsnakes. Recently inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame (alongside the likes of Peter Green, John Mayall and Alexis Korner). Lamb still continues to bring his infectious brand of soulful blues to a plethora of fans around the globe.

There's no disputing that Paul Lamb is the pre-eminent harp player in Europe and up there with the best in the word, but this is no one-man-band. Guitar maestro, Johnny Whitehill is himself a former category winner in the British Blues Awards three years in a row and the silky smooth vocals of Earl Green (formerly with Otis Grand's band) have earned him the 'Best Vocalist' accolade in 1996, 1997 and 2001. Rod Demick has long been known as one of the UK's more aggressive bass players, showing no mercy whatsoever when it comes down to delivering a hard, pumping rhythm. Sonny Below is a genuine enigma: a pure blues drummer, undiluted and tastefully strong. Little wonder that the Kingsnakes have won 'Best Band' five times! As Blues and Rhythm mag so eloquently put it, "They play the blues in the same way Brando used to straddle a Triumph…. Lazy cocksure, cool and aggressive".

Tickets £8 (£6 concessions)
(Cut the cost of enjoying the Blues at Southport Arts Centre with our Season Booker Special Offer)

Image Musical Theatre present
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

Saturday 22 November, 2pm

All these shows are special so this one can only be described as extra-special. As one of Image Musical Theatre's acclaimed 'Family Participation Musicals' (their twentieth production of this kind), there will be the opportunity for some children to take part in the show and for everyone else to sing in the chorus songs. The first act of the production is a rehearsal workshop in which some children are chosen and rehearsed into parts in the play while the rest of the audience learn the chorus songs. After a short interval, the show proceeds with everyone taking part.
All the fantastic characters of this classic story will be there and, as always with this company's work, this will be a magical experience for all the family. (Age: 5 and upwards).

Children's Theatre Saturday Matinees at the Art Centre

Here at Southport Arts Centre we take the business of entertaining
children seriously. Which is not to say that we are po-faced about it (heaven forbid), but 'fun' is definitely Rule Number 2. So, what is Rule Number 1, I hear you ask? Rule Number 1 is 'Quality'; pure (though far from simple…) quality.

As Jake Roney, Programme Manager here at the Arts Centre says, "Children love the experience of lie theatre. Some of the most exciting shows around have been devised for a young audience, using all the skills and techniques that you would expect in a 'serious' piece of theatre. Whether it is puppetry, comedy, adventure or drama, Southport Arts Centre aims to present the best and the most entertaining children's shows available".

This explains why regular Children's Theatre Saturday Matinees are to be Jake's first major innovation in the programming of events at the Arts Centre. To emphasise our commitment to child-focused family theatre, we're offering a range of Flexible Family Tickets at reduced prices to make quality entertainment great value for you. And we're making further special offer available to celebrate the launch of regular Children's Theatre at the Arts Centre - book for all four events in the current season and you only pay for three! You see, we don't want you to have to pick and choose; we want you to be able enjoy to every event.
