TREACHERY, GREED & INSANITY COME TO VUE SOUTHPORT IN MACBETH OPERA

A resident in the Churchtown area reported that three men had turned up at her door offering compost at £4.00 a bag. They spent an hour putting 90 bags on the front borders of her garden at a cost of £360.00 and told her they had run out of compost, but would come back the following day as they had run out of the product. The next day they returned and put down another 80 bags. The total cost was £600. The householder was later told that although the bags had contained compost the quality was poor. At this time of the year residents do receive cold callers offering various items such as top soil or compost for sale. Although many callers are genuine there are some unscrupulous people who are only too eager to relieve householders of their money by selling inferior goods.

Residents are advised to check:-

► The cost in comparison to Garden Centres and DIY stores.

► Do you know the company? Logos on T shirts are not always proof of a genuine company

► Mobile numbers given by callers. Is the number genuine?

► If you do decide to buy, state the number of bags you are ordering and ensure the correct amount is given to you

► Check the contents & size of the bags. Are you happy you are getting what you ordered?

Alzheimer’s study calls for volunteers

A new therapy for Alzheimer’s disease that could help to treat the condition is being researched at a Liverpool clinic.

MAC UK, a private healthcare company based at Spire Healthcare’s Liverpool Hospital, is looking for volunteers who have the disease to take part in the study of the new drug, which may help to improve memory, cognition and wider symptoms of the disease. The degenerative memory condition affects 750,000 people in the UK,

The study involves nine visits to the centre over the space of 26 weeks during which time patients are examined to determine the efficacy of the treatment. Prior to taking part in the study volunteers are thoroughly screened to make sure that they are suitable participants.

Volunteers’ GPs are kept up to date with the progress of individuals throughout the process and there is no cost attached to the visits.

MAC UK has successfully researched new medication for Alzheimer’s disease in the past, as well as treatments for Fibromyalgia, Diabetes and neuropathic pain. The organisation also runs memory assessment clinics for people who could be showing symptoms of dementia.

Dr Steve Higham, Chief Operating Officer at MAC UK said:- “Ultimately, this research could be of benefit to millions of people globally. The frustration and misery that comes with any sort of dementia is crippling and we hope that this study can go some way in helping people return their life to some normality.”

To contact MAC UK for more information or to find out if you, or a loved one, are suitable for the study please call:- 0800 633 5507.
