Last Week So Who will win?

New Victoria Cricket Club.
Report by Dave Addison.

NEW Victoria Cricket Clubs' Annual General Meeting took place on Friday 24th January at the Hesketh Casuals Social Club , with one of the best attendances in recent years.

The saddest moment came when founder member Bob Metcalfe stepped down after 50 years as Chairman from when the club was founded in 1952.

First eleven all rounder Peter Hames was elected in Bob's place for 2003 and the First eleven captaincy went to Steve Palin supported by Phil Jones as Vice Captain. Rob Jones takes on the Second Eleven captaincy backed up by Andy Addison. Unfortunately both senior teams had megre results in 2002 with the First Eleven ending the season mid table in Div 2 of the Southport League, whilst the Second's were relegated from Div 4, the latter having to rely heavily on junior players. It was the junior section that produced the most positive report with all the teams producing good results , particularly the Under 15's who gained promotion from Div C of the junior league , as runners up. A combined Under 11 and Under 13 team will tour South Yorkshire in 2003.There will also be Under 9 and Under 18 teams next season as well.

In 2003 changes in the Southport League have resulted in the First Eleven playing in Div 1 and the Second Eleven in Div 4 ( a mixture of last seasons 4 & 5).

New players are always welcome at either Senior or Junior levels.Senior nets start on Thursday 6th February, at Dunes Leisure Centre , 7 to 8pm. £ 3 .

Details of Senior and Junior teams can be obtained on 01704 -546293.
