A New Lord Mayor of Liverpool has been installed

THE new Lord Mayor of Liverpool, 
Councillor Tony Concepcion, has be installed on Wednesday, 27 May 2015, at the 
City's Town Hall.  Councillor Concepcion is a retired Vauxhall Motors 
worker and senior shop steward; grew up in the City Centre and now lives in 
Knotty Ash, close to the new Alder Hey Hospital. He has been married to his wife 
Ann; who will be Lady Mayoress; since 1969, after they both met on a Mersey 
Ferry, named the Royal Iris, during a river cruise, when they were both 16. They 
have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. Cllr. Concepcion was 1st elected to the 
City Council 25 years ago and served on many committees from 1990 to 1998 
including:- housing, transport, and planning. Since being re-elected for Yew 
Tree Ward in 2010, he has served on the planning committee and several Select 
Committees and outside bodies including the Merseyside Recycling Waste Authority 
(MRWA).  Cllr. Concepcion said:- "My wife and I are both thrilled, 
excited and deeply honoured to accept this position. To be Liverpool's 1st 
Citizen and Ambassadors for our great City is a wonderful opportunity that we 
will cherish forever."
The Lord Mayor of Liverpool is known as the 1st citizen and chosen 
representative of the City, acting as a focal point for the community as well as 
promoting the City and forging national and international links.  Cllr. 
Concepcion will be sponsoring 3 charities during his year as Lord Mayor. They 
are:- Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey, Kids in Need and Distress (KIND) and 
Lister Steps Carnegie Community Hub.  Cllr. Concepcion said that:- 
"I'm hoping to raise a lot of money for these charities during my year as Lord 
Mayor. All my sponsored charities are focused on helping children and families 
cope with difficult situations and develop community engagement."
