	 Construction firms raise
thousands for R Charity and the new Royal

	AS they transform the Liverpool
skyline and build the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital which is set
to open in 2017, construction firms are also keen to leave an enduring
	legacy behind them.

In partnership with R Charity; which is raising £10 million to provide the
new Royal with facilities beyond those the NHS can provide; Carillion are
fundraising throughout the year, starting with a black tie Burns Night ceilidh dinner which raised over £22,000 for R Charity.

The event opened with a traditional piping in of the haggis, and dancers in
kilts took their partners to the sound of a 4 piece Ceilidh band from
	Glasgow.

The Burns Night fundraiser will be followed by a spring event, a summer ball
and an autumn fundraiser for R Charity too, all organised by construction
	firm Carillion and their subcontractors.

Simon Webb, Carillion managing director for the new Royal, said:- "As
well as building a wonderful new Royal, we are determined to leave a lasting
legacy in this city with our committed fundraising programme in partnership
	with R Charity."

	Andrew Shankland, project leader for
contractors Astins, said:- "Given our proud Scottish heritage, we were
keen to share our Burns Night celebrations with our fellow contractors at
the Royal and raise money for R Charity too."

Alison Valentine, Carillion community regeneration manager, said:-
"Since the new Royal is now a very real part of the city landscape, we are
determined to play our part in the regeneration of this city and raise vital
	funds for R Charity too."

Lauren Davies, corporate partnerships manager at R Charity, said:- "We
are very proud to be working in partnership with Carillion and Astins, and
we are delighted with their generous donation to R Charity and continuing
fundraising programme to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and
improved patient comfort in the new Royal."
