Formby shocked as Henrik Stenson's rented
house burgled during 1st round!
NOT good publicity for the area! As a top Swedish golfer
was playing at The Open, the house he is staying in was burgled. Golfers and
their families commonly stay in rented homes rather than Hotels at majors and
the World Number 8, Henrik Stenson had chosen to to rent accommodation in
Formby. Formby is well known for being safe and locals are shocked to hear the
news about the defending champion's burglary. We are told that the thieves steal
cash, clothes, watches and cards. Luckily the famous Claret Jug, which he won at
The Open in 2016, was not stolen as it had already been set to Royal Birkdale.
We are told that Police were called to a property, on Freshfield Road, Formby at
around 5pm, but it is initially believed that the house was burgled some time
between midday and 2.45pm.
Merseyside Police has launched an investigation and Detective Inspector Simon
Vaughan said:- "We are determined to identify those responsible and as
with every burglary victim, we are carrying out a thorough investigation,
offering reassurance and crime prevention advice. The Hugo Boss clothing taken
is very personal to the victim and can be identified by a distinctive NetJets
sponsorship logo, so if anyone is offered such clothing, please contact us
immediately. If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Freshfield Road area
between these times, please call us. Any small detail could be vital to the
investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to call:- 101 quoting the independent charity
Crimestoppers anonymously and for free on:- 0800 555 111 or go
