Friends Of Rotten Row launch appeal for a new 'Florry' to replace their beloved tool transport golf buggy

AN urgent fundraising appeal has been launched by the Friends of Rotten Row for a replacement tool transportation cart, known affectionately as:- "Florry."

The converted 40 year old golf buggy has been an invaluable support for the volunteers, who work tirelessly to maintain the stunning Victorian herbaceous border on Rotten Row which runs alongside Victoria Park, in Southport.

The Friends of Rotten Row need to raise:- £3,000 for a new:- "Florry" and have been given a fantastic head start thanks to a generous:- £1,500 donation by Southport Rotary.

A Crowdfunder page has now been set up, inviting local people and local businesses to show their support and make up the difference to reach the final amount.

Shirley Hale from Friends of Rotten Row said:- "Florry is a converted golf buggy and is approximately 40 years old. She is coming towards the end of her life and is now not economically viable to repair. She has been invaluable to us, in the transportation of tools, soil and plants etc. thus enabling the volunteers of Friends of Rotten Row to work efficiently. The cost of a replacement is:- £3,000, Southport Rotary have already very kindly pledged:- £1500. Our aim is to initially meet the target of the remaining:- £1,500 and any surplus would go towards the ongoing maintenance of the new buggy and other ongoing costs in order to maintain our heritage half mile herbaceous border. If you or anyone you know would like to donate towards a replacement buggy please follow this on:- CrowdFunder.Co.UK. Please share with anyone you think would be happy to help. We would be most grateful for any donations received."

Stuart Fletcher of Southport Rotary said:-
"Southport Rotary was delighted to be able to start the ball rolling with our £1,500 towards the Friends of Rotten Row. They're a fantastic group who do an amazing job in maintaining one of the most historic and eye catching features in Southport. When events such as:- Southport Flower Show, Southport Food and Drink Festival and others are taking place at:- Victoria Park, the sight of Rotten Row always gives that wow factor to visitors; as it will when:- The Open Golf Championship is taking place this summer. The Friends Of Rotten Row urgently need to raise funds to buy a new tool transportation cart and we hope the local community will rally together to support them to do that! We have set up our Crowdfunder page and hope people will feel able to support. If we manage to raise anything over:- £3,000, it will go directly to:- 'The Friends Of Rotten Row' to help them to continue with the magnificent work they're doing to make Southport a better place for us all."
