BAD WEATHER HITS MERSEYSIDE

BAD weather hit most of Merseyside and the rest of the UK this week causing flooding and disruption. One happy chap shouted out to us as we were taking photographs of the floods, "We do not need sundials, just measuring jugs!"

This week's heavy thunderstorms have already brought havoc to many areas of the country. Flash flooding hit many towns and cities. But the Met Office forecasters are warning us again of the prospect of more to come as hot weather and severe thunderstorms sweep across much of Western Europe from Sunday.

"This week rainfall figures have ranged from 46.8 mm Pershore, Worcs to 61.8 mm Eskdalemuir, Dumfries & Galloway. Severe weather like this means motorists must take great care when driving.”

Storms for next week are likely to extend further east through Monday and Tuesday. Further disruption in places is inevitable owing to torrential rain, hail and squally winds.  Most at risk are Wales, the West Country and central parts of England.

The Met Office is advising people travelling or planning outdoor activities to ‘stay tuned’ to weather broadcasts for up-to-the-minute developments on the situation.
