Letter - Proposed Changes to Addresses - Formby

Click on to see a larger copy of this letter.

OUR newsroom has had a number of complaints about a letter sent out by Royal Mail dated 23/03/11 and carrying the reference loc/l/208/10/tg on it. According to Royal Mail 6000 letters have been sent out and it has raised many eyebrows for lots of reasons. The complaints are mainly pointing out the fact that Formby is not Liverpool and never has been part of Liverpool. The biggest surprise is the complaints about dropping Merseyside from the address and replacing it with Liverpool! Then other concerns voiced by local residents are that the response form was not attached. Also, some pointed out that the date for the 13 April 2011, would not give enough time for a true consultation. That's not forgetting the fact that some businesses also contacted us to point out problems that changes would bring, in the form of changing business stationary etc. Most of the questions also pointed out that there is no explanation as to the reason behind the requested change to the address. We asked Royal Mail why they sent it out and why they wanted to change the address with respect to the problems our readers cited. Royal Mail Group's External Relations Manager for the North, Marie Gray quickly replied:- "Royal Mail are currently consulting on a request to include Formby in the postal address for residents in the area and have sent out letters seeking feedback from our customers in Formby. Due to an error in the printing process the details in the letter are incorrect and an amended version will be sent out this week. We apologise to any customers for the inconvenience caused." So if any readers have any views on this, please do let us know by emailing us to:- news24@southportreporter.com.
