SOUTHPORT TEENAGER TO REPRESENT THE NORTH WEST

Sixteen-year-old Bethany Greenway, from Southport will be representing the North West after winning the regional final of the Search for a Star competition.

Bethany will now go forward to the National Grand Final at Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth in November when £2,000 will be up for grabs.

In total ten acts from all over the North West performed before a full house at Southport's Arts Centre before judges decided vocalist Bethany was the overall winner and Simon J, from Burscough, the runner-up.

"I'm just so shocked," said Bethany. "It is the first time I have ever entered a competition."

Bethany gave a powerful performance with her rendition of Shania Twain's 'From This Moment On' and Oleta Adams' 'Get Here'.

Judge Peter Sandman, from Sefton Tourism Department, who organized the event in conjunction with ABD Productions, said:- "They were ten excellent acts but we decided Bethany had something that little bit extra. She's extremely talented and gave a stunning performance. She will be a great ambassador for Southport where she appears in the national final. We wish her every success."

Bethany's ambition is to appear in the West End. She is from a musical family, has been a member of Southport Operatic New Generation for seven years, appearing in more than 14 shows, and is through to the audition stage of ITV's Pop Rivals.
The regional final was the culmination of five exciting heats of this annual competition, which is now in its 27th year.  Click here for more photos.
