Issue:- 14 November 2013

All aboard the Santa Express to the brand new St George's Grotto!

FROM 16 November  to 23 December 2013, a brand new Christmas Grotto will open in one of Liverpool's most iconic historic buildings! St George's Grotto; an interactive Dickensian festive experience complete with a miniature train, will come alive within one of Liverpool’s most beloved landmarks, St George's Hall. Visitors are invited to take part in magical journey through this iconic building before meeting Father Christmas himself.

Opening Saturday, 16 November and running every Saturday and Sunday until 14 December, and from then on every day right up until 23 December, St George's Hall's magical Christmas interactive experience is the perfect way  for children and families to revisit the Christmas of a time gone by.

This enchanting journey begins at St John's Lane entrance where visitors board a real Santa Express Train. Once on board passengers will be whisked through St Georges Hall as Christmas comes alive before their very eyes, travelling through Santa's Workshop and an authentic Winter Wonderland before excited children (and adults too) meet Father Christmas in his Grotto at the very end of their journey.  Each child will receive an early Christmas present  and actors and performers will bring a Dickensian Christmas scene to life,  as they entertain and spread festive magic throughout this nostalgic experience;  a fitting scene for Dickens’ favourite venue.

Alan Smith, General Manager at St. George's Hall said:- "We can't wait to throw open our doors for our first ever Christmas grotto and give the children (and big kids) of Liverpool a magical festive experience steeped in history and tradition, with a real miniature train ride and a present from Santa to top it all off."

Tickets are available to purchase on the day at St George's Hall itself, with children’s tickets priced at £6 (accompanying adults go free!), this is the perfect way for the whole family to recapture the true meaning of Christmas.

Event details:-

16 November to 14 December, running on Saturday and Sunday only.

15 December to 23 December, running open daily from 11am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm).

Child's ticket:- £6 (includes gift from Santa).  Accompanying adults go free.   Tickets available to purchase at the venue on the day.

'The Play's the Thing...'

STUDENTS from Range High School, in Formby, recently performed 'Hamlet' as a part of the National Shakespeare Schools Festival, at the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool with resounding success.  The festival manager, Anna Dever, was 'struck with the talent' of the students and particularly impressed by the use of ensemble in the production. Students were praised for their determination, focus and intelligent portrayals of the characters in one of Shakespeare's most famous plays.  The Artistic Director of the festival Chris Grace said:- "The play-within-a-play was expertly performed and the tension grew throughout the piece, ending with a tense and bloody battle! Hamlet can often be a difficult play to master but your students welcomed and embraced the challenge. It was a real pleasure to work with you and meet your cast. I am sure we will not see a better Hamlet this Festival! I'm glad I got to see it."  Michelle Pappini, who runs the lunchtime drama club the students are a part of, and directed the performance, said:- "I am incredibly proud of all involved and looking forward to their next project."
