Did you go to the Woodvale Rally / Woodvale Transport Festival 2015
Photographs by Patrick Trollope.

THE popular Woodvale Rally is slowly getting back on track since it was forced to leave its traditional home at RAF Woodvale, back in 2012, for a much smaller site in Southport. This year's 2 day event was once again held on Southport's Victoria Park, ahead of this year's Southport Flower Show. Over 20 June to 21 June 2015, it attracted hundreds of motor enthusiasts to the event. Sadly, as with most of the events since the move, there were no model aircraft flying. Despite there being fewer big military vehicles than the airfield could accommodate, what was lacking in number was made up for in quality, with an amazing addition of an ex US Navy Vietnam War Amphibious Vehicle enliven one of the many attractions in that section. Other interesting things included the return of the Auto Jumble, a Car Boot Sale and the Car Flea Market. That is not forgetting live music and the addition of a The Balance Bike Adventure Zone. On top of that the organisers added yet another attraction, the AA Under 17's Driving Experience. That attraction let 11 to 16 years old experience the thrill of driving a car with a qualified AA Driving instructor! Other hidden treasures included the Model Boat Exhibition and the Model Train Exhibition tents. On a more rosy and lively side were the live performances by the amazing motorcycle trials rider, Steve Colley, who did things with motorcycles that we mere mortals would find impossible. If that was not enough, fantastic dance performances by Southport's very own Sereno School of Dance, who came over from their home on Eastbank Street for the event. Mike Byrne and The Sunrockers, along with Strawberry Fayre allowed show goers to rock, jibe and shimmy along with their musical talents. The event might not be the Woodvale Rally of old, but it still delivers a good entertaining attraction that is a credit to the local area. Next Rally dates have now been announced as 18 June to 19 June 2016, and will once again be held on Victoria Park, Southport, so put in your diary now!
