New Brighton's 'Old Town' to host festive market

BUSINESSES in New Brighton's 'Old Town' are getting ready to welcome hundreds of new visitors when it is the venue for a special festive event next month.  New Brighton Coastal Community Team is hosting 'The Old Town Christmas Fayre' over the weekend of Saturday, 10 December and Sunday, 11 December 2016, which promises festive fun and seasonal stalls along Victoria Road and Victoria Parade.

As well as taking in the sights, smells and sounds of the event out on the street, it will also be an opportunity for visitors to pop in and check out the local independent traders along this road, which for many will be for the first time.

The event starts at 11am, on both days, and goes on until 9pm, on the Saturday and 5pm on the Sunday. An Arts, Crafts and Gifts market will be traded from beautiful festive wooden chalets by talented local people.

The event will be opened by the Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Pat Hackett, at 11am, on Saturday, 10 December 2016, and a Christmas Tree Light Up will take place 7pm later that day. There will be mulled wine and hot food, including bratwurst available from outside Cabovino Wine Bar and Tapas and The Olive Tree.

There will also be face painting, carol singing and visits from princesses on the Saturday as part of the event, which is being supported by Victoria Road Traders' Association.

Cllr Tony Jones, Wirral Council's Pledge Champion for 'Thriving Visitor Economy' and Chair of the New Brighton Coastal Community Team, said:- "New Brighton is a seaside tourist destination increasing in popularity year on year, but many visitors stay on the promenade and don't venture inland.  The area has a plethora of fantastic things to see and do and great places to eat and drink across the resort, including on Victoria Road and Victoria Parade, Seabank Road, Vale Park and of course the magnificent community led Black Pearl driftwood ship. We hope that the Fayre encourages visitors to explore other parts of New Brighton and what better way to support local independent traders than to bring an arts, crafts and gifts market, with other fun and festivities, to The Old Town."
