Anti Fracking campaigners get ready for a fight

LOCAL action groups have come together over the last few weeks to hold a series of public meetings about the controversial neighbouring fracking plans, within Great Altcar, just outside Formby. We went to the 1st of the latest meetings, that was held on 3 September 2019, at Gild Hall, Formby.  The  very heated meeting, was run by Frack Free Formby.

The public meeting also had local Councils, along with representatives of the other local anti-fracking groups, like the Moss Alliance, attending and showing support to Frack Free Formby.

MP Bill Esterson sadly could not attended the public meeting to add his concerns over the plans as well as his views about the fracking industry, due to having to attend Brexit meetings in London. As a result he issued a letter that was handed out at the meeting, to all those attending. You can see a copy of it, via clicking on here now.

1 of the biggest comments raised was that locals feel Aurora Energy Resources has not really engaged with the people of Formby, when looking into the proposal for the exploratory drilling rig. This is not surprising, as the planning application falls under West Lancashire and not Sefton Council, even though the rig would be closer to Formby's Industrial Estate and Formby Village than Great Altcar, and Formby is in Sefton Council, not West Lancashire. But it does raise serious questions about how planning applications on schemas like this should be handled.

On our Southport Reporter Twitter we asked:- "We are interested to know what our readers views are. Do you think Fracking should be banned in the UK?" The response was:-

Yes, definitely... 88%

No, no problem with it... 5%

Don't know enough to say... 8%

Don't care about it... 0%

We would like to hear your views on this very controversial topic, so please email them to:- News24@SouthportReporter.Com, both good and bad...

We have contacted Aurora Energy Resources Limited for information about the application. If we get a reply, we will post it in a future issue.
