Just 'Deserts'
By Dominic Bonner

A brisk windy Sunday morning greeted walkers braving the elements in aid of the 'Desert Trek ten mile walk' to fund the building of the Formby's swimming pool.

The funding of the swimming pool has been in planning for some 35 years by the Formby pool project. We hope to let you know the total raised.

The project  building by Sefton council will be constructed on the Formby football club to new football ground nearby.

The Desert Trek, stretches from Formby point to Southport. It returns after five years of absence to re-establish itself as an annual event. It was hailed as a success by Alan Roberts as some two hundred people took part to ramble the ten miles of beach along the Mersey coast. "It was an absolutely wonderful community response from the people of Formby. The marshals were superb. The walkers were tremendous despite braving the bad weather. I was amazed at the number of people that turned up, including the young and elderly. It was a great community response."
