Formby Christmas Lights 2007

DESPITE the cold on Thursday 12 November 2007, just under 4000 people descended on the village centre, as the Champion Christmas Lights were switched on. The event is the first of several to take place in the village over the run up to Christmas. With a Dickensian Day on 1 December 2007 and then a Nativity Play a few days later, Formby is set to sparkle this Christmas. Turning on the Champion Christmas Lights was Everton Star, Alan Stubbs, who lives locally. Also on stage was X-Factor star, Paris, 30 pupils from Formby's Our Lady of Compassion School, and Dune FM's Johnny and Wally, also Allen Hilbert from Dune FM, to name just a few. Off the main stage could be found the Formby and District Rotary Club with Santa, The Formby Brownies and Guides, ABD's Christmas Panto cast members from "Who Can Save Christmas?", and lots of local singers. Also on hand was the Formby Round Table and St John Ambulance, who were behind the scenes. The event was co-ordinated by Peter Dunne, the Champion Newspaper's Editor Martin Hovden and the Champion's Sue Dare, Sefton Council and the retailers in the village.

At the end of the night, the VIP's where treated to mince-pies and drinks at the Formby Conservative Club.
