Suspected arson attack at a Chinese restaurant

AT around 1am
on Tuesday, 16 June 2009, Emergency services were called to reports
of a fire at The Oriental restaurant on Lifeboat Road, in the
Shorrocks Hill Country Club building. This is the second such attack
on the property within the last two months. At the time of this
latest incident the restaurant was closed. Merseyside Police confirm
it is investigating a suspected arson attack at a Chinese restaurant
and joint investigation has been launched with Merseyside Fire
Service intothe cause of fire. The owner of the fitness center
said:- "We have not done anything to deserve this. It has
devastated us. We have put in so much hard work to build up a good
clientele and a friendly atmosphere, and this happens. We are all in
shock." The owner of the Oriental business added:- "I
have lost everything. I had lots of bookings and now I do not know
what to do. I have no plan B. This was my life and my income and my
future. Now I have lost it. I have done so much work to get my
business up and running. I would never have thought this could or
would have ever happen to me. I am just thankful no one was
injured." A customer who came down to help console the staff
and the business owners said:- "Some of the local media have
not made it easy since the last incident. I am horrified to see what
has happened and I hope that the businesses get the support from the
media this time." This was echoed by quite a few people who
came over as they walked their dogs. Merseyside Police also
confirmed with us that "No-one was injured during the incident
and that the fire was put out shortly after it began. Sadly
extensive damage has been caused to the premises."
Detectives believe this was a targeted attack and are investigating
whether it is linked to previous incidents in the area. House to
house enquiries have been carried out and high-visibility patrols
stepped up in the area to provide reassurance to the public. Police
have carried out enquiries in the local area and are appealing to
any witnesses and anyone with information in relation to the
incident to contact Copy Lane CID via:- 0151 709 6010 or
Crimestoppers anonymously on:- 0800 555 111.

Do
not risk it... Do not cross!

ON
Monday, 15 June 2009, at around 3pm a man was pictured hopping
across the closed railway crossing as school children and other
adults looked on in horror. Just a few seconds after
hopping over the other side, the train came through. The
children summed it up by saying:- "You ****. What an example!
And people wonder why accidents happen!" The photos
have been passed on to the police who said that "It amazes us,
just how silly people are. People like this do not think that
they not only their own lives at risk, but others as well. We
will be looking into this and would like to remind people that it is
an offence to do this. But most importantly, it is a dangerous
and foolish thing to do!"
