Prepare to be fascinated at Trust’s Open Day
Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust’s open day is bursting at the seams with a terrific line-up of tours and interactive displays and demonstrations.  All staff at the wards and departments throughout Southport & Formby DGH; Southport General Infirmary and Ormskirk DGH are working hard to make it a memorable day. It’s all happening this year at the Southport & Formby site on July 6 from 10am to 4pm.  Get set for a fascinating and fun event for all the family to enjoy. It’s a leap behind the scenes of your local hospitals, and a chance to find out for yourself exactly what goes on at the many departments and wards. It will open your eyes to the services on offer, and in many instances you’ll be able to take information away and ask advice too.

Jonathan Parry, Chief Executive of the Trust, said:- “The Trust always looks forward to its open day and welcoming hundreds of visitors each year. It’s our way of keeping people informed about the services on offer at their hospitals. It’s also a chance for them to peep behind the scenes and join staff for a day of fun. This is the fourth open day we have organised, and each time the event gets better and better. I’d like to thank all staff for their wonderful contributions and hard work.”

With so much going on it’s hard to mention everyone, but here’s a flavour of what to expect on the day.  Dermatology’s Sun Awareness Display – find out how to protect yourself and family from skin cancer, and feel free to put your questions to the dermatology team. There will be plenty of information leaflets to take away on looking after your skin in the sun. Treasure Hunt – youngsters will love this event, which will see them learning all about hospital services.  Theatre Tours – the theatre team has planned an action-packed tour. Highlights for visitors including using the theatres’ ‘training boxes’ to carryout mock telescopic procedures. Pop along to the trauma theatre and see how a joint is pinned, or test your skills on a mannequin by taking its blood pressure. Play around with joint replacements and theatre instruments and marvel at the technology involved. There will also be special gift bags for children.  Spinal Injuries Unit – chart the fascinating journey of a patient at the unit, and see the type of equipment used in rehabilitation.  Catering Services – there will be plenty of tasty refreshments available at the open day. These will include a BBQ, cake sale and afternoon tea. Territorial Army – check out the army wolf ambulances and the tent where you can be ‘made up’ as a casualty (using realistic make-up).  Find Out About A Career in Healthcare – if you are interested in a career in healthcare, the open day is an ideal opportunity to find out more. Occupational Health – take advantage of a series of health checks for all the family.  Maternity & Neonatal Unit – bring a teddy or doll for a health check at a special hospital set up for them on the day. Patients’ Group – find out about the Group’s role and how you can get involved.
