Accident at Southport Fire Station

A sensor problem is thought to have coursed a Fire Engine to colliding with a roller shutter door, at the brand new Southport Community Fire Station that has was only opened in October 2014! We have been told that the crew at the time were responding to a 999 call when the accident happened. The new station is 1 of 7 new stations that included Formby Community Fire Station and Bootle and Netherton Community Fire Station, that all use the same type of doors. The Stations are all part of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project, which once finished, will see a total of 16 new fire stations being built. This building project is in collaboration between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services and Cumbria and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Services. When we got to the station, workers had started to fix the door, on one of its 6 fast response vehicle bays, that it shares with the North West Ambulance Service. we understand that the door problem is being looked into. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services has only confirmed to us that a:- "collision with a door" had taken place at the station.
