Spooky delights instore for Southport!

IT'S going to be a blast this half term in Southport... With the Happy Halloween Event throughout the October half term, in Southport Pleasureland and with a Halloween Parade on Lord Street, plus many other businesses joining in, you are in for one heck of a good time in Southport. As Pleasureland owner, Norman Wallis has told us, it's going to be a "spooktacular Halloween." The main attraction will be Southport Pleasureland, and activities start on Saturday, 24 October 2015, when the 2nd Spookfest turns the seaside resort into Spookport, the UK's biggest Halloween Town... Setting off from the tourist attraction that night will be a massive Halloween Parade. The Parade will travel down the full length of Lord Street and with lots of small events taking place throughout the town. Some events will be "not too scary" and ok for young children, where as others will be... Then over the next few nights things will keep building, with a fantastic fireworks display on Monday, 26 October 2015. On every night the park is open Pleasureland will have its normal fun mix of rides and amusements, set around a park's family friendly area, which has now been decorated with Halloween props. Plus, over those nights it will also be inhabited by some unusual characters... Norman has told us:- "Please do join us and take a look at our pumpkin displays. If you visit us, the park will be free to enter, except on Halloween Night, as that will be ticket only! We have lots of surprises in store for you as you wander around enjoying the sights and sounds, soak up the atmosphere. You can also see our one of our many free shows that will be taking place or enjoy a cup of witch's brew in one of our coffee bars!" On 31 October will be The Scream Fest, at Pleasureland, 2 arenas', 32 acres of devilishly good fun, from 2pm to 2am! Sadly, that event is ticket only one and to get tickets for it, go to:- SouthportPleasureland.Com for more information. Other events, not as big will also be taking place, like at the Fox and Goose, who are running 'Dusk till Dawn Special'. Plus on the outskirts of Southport, in Formby Shorrockshill will also host an event... and the West Lancs. Light Railway are also hosting the Halloween Specials, see WLLR.Net for more information about it. Then to finish on a blast on Friday, 6 November 2015, Southport Pleasureland will be lighting up the skies yet again, with another fantastic fireworks display! Plus on Saturday, 7 November 2015, on Victoria Park, the annual charity bonfire and fireworks event takes place, run by Southport Round Table. We are told that the Round Table event will be quite a blast and is free for under-5s, £3 for under-11s and £7 for anyone 12+. The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the firework display will begin at 8pm. If you are staging a Halloween event, bonfire and/or fireworks event, in and around Merseyside, then please do email the information to us via:- News24@SouthportReporter.Com.

Former Everton manager Howard Kendall has died at the age of 69

THE Everton manager Howard Kendall has died in Southport Hospital in the early ours of Saturday, 17 October 2015, aged 69. Tributes started to flood in, as the news broke, for this very highly respected football legend. In a statement given to the press, Everton FC said that:- "Kendall passed away in Southport Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. It's a sad, sad loss and he will be sorely missed. The thoughts of everyone associated with the Club are with Howard’s family at this difficult time and it would be appreciated if everyone could respect their request for privacy." He was the club's most successful manager and an inspiration man. At the match against Manchester United, on Saturday, both sides paid tribute by wearing black armbands as a mark of respect and a minute’s applause was held before the game started. Our Editor Patrick Trollope said:- "All of us at Southport and Mersey Reporter would like to pass our condolences to Howard's family."
