MVT's Heaton's Bridge Inn Display 2014

OVER 5 April and 6 April 2014, it was not just the Grand National that was stopping traffic, as over the weekend, the Heaton's Bridge Inn, Burscough had a surprise for motorists. As people passed they could see a large Howitzer field gun and a tank parked outside the well known landmark pub. They were on display as part of the Merseyside and Lancashire M.V.T. Groups. (The Military Vehicle Trust) free event to publicise the group and to support the local venue that has been supporting them for several years now. It might not be one of the largest displays, but it was one display not to have been missed for local military vehicle enthusiasts. The event was a joint event, organised by members of the MVT and the pub, and is now held twice a year, along the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, on the B5242, Heaton's Bridge Road.

On display were a good selection of battle field and operational support vehicles from the US, UK and Switzerland, to name a few. The vehicles attending ranged from Land Rovers and Jeeps, through to 4 ton trucks. That is not forgetting a very large Mighty Antar Tank transporter/trailer and Abbot self propelled gun. Parked on the car park was a fully restored tank, along with a Howitzer field gun with Foden Gun crew-bus, surprising motorists as they came over the canal Bridge. These are a few photographs of the Saturday's activities. We cannot weight see what the M.V.T. do at the next one, later in the year!
