Murder enquiry launched after 2 bodies are found in Southport
Photograph by VampHire.com

MERSEYSIDE Police Detectives have launched a murder enquiry and arrested a man following the discovery of a body within a house on Lonsdale Road, Southport, on Tuesday, 21 February 2012. As a result of further enquiries a second body was also recovered at an address in Birch Street, Southport, in the early hours of Wednesday, 22 February 2012. It is thought that the Police launched the double murder inquiry after a man, thought to be a Taxi driver, handed himself into a Southport Police Station. At this time the cause of death has yet to be established and Home Office post mortems will be carried out later. Both of the victims are believed to be women in their 80s. A 43 year man from Southport has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and will be further interviewed in connection with the enquiry.

The Force Major Incident Team is leading the investigation and house to house enquiries now are underway. Both scenes remain sealed for forensic examination. Anyone with information is asked to call the FMIT on:- 0800 230 0600 or Crime stoppers on:- 0800 555 111. Both pensioners have yet to be formally identified. House to house inquiries are under way and the results of post-mortem examinations on both women are due later. Ch Supt Nikki Holland said officers were "following a number of lines of inquiry."

Responding to a suggestion that the deaths may be related to a burglary on Jane's Brook Road, she said:- "We are keeping an open mind in relation to whether other incidents may be related or not. We want to reassure all residents, particularly older residents, who live in the area where these addresses are located that we have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance and support."

FOR RENT:- Apartment on Park Crescent. Large 3 bed, en-suite, fitted kitchen, electric entry system, lift, secure parking £750 pcm.  Call:- 01744 889888 for more information.
