Formby Village Nativity 2013!
Photograph by Patrick Trollope.

THIS year's Formby Nativity Play took place on 14 December 2013 and it was the 8th year that Formby Churches Together has conducted the event in the open air, despite the risk that the weather would be inclement with rain and high winds causing havoc to the proceedings. Interestingly the weather stayed calm throughout the event. Oddly, the weather changing in a blink of an eye just after it had finished, with strong gusts of wind blowing diversion signs and other objects over. The Nativity is now a great annual event for the local community, pulling in local schools and businesses along with the churches, to form a cast of 50+ and that is not mentioning the live animals! All the cast as well as the local primary school children, performed the traditional nativity story that most are very familiar with, in full costume. Throughout the performance local people acted out scenes on a stage which had been erected in the middle of the road, with a pre-recorded soundtrack playing out the notation. The play, as normal, was an original script, keeping it fresh and bringing the really nice feeling of the spirit of Christmas to the village centre and retelling the story of the birth of Jesus alive. In total over 100 people had to help to deliver this event and we have to say that they did a remarkably good job. This has become an established tradition and we hope people of Formby continue to support the organisers, who each year, put so much time and effort into it. If you did not attend, please click on here to see our photographic coverage of the event. Please email us if you attended and let us know what you thought of it. Our email, if you don't already know is:- news24@southportreporter.com.
